As a Northern VA and DC Maternity Photographer, I am the first one to tell mothers why you should have a maternity session.
Some mothers may choose to forego a maternity session for a few reasons. These reasons all make sense, but in the long run, the value of a maternity session is greater.
You may not love the way you feel – I’ve been there. Nothing fits, you don’t feel well, it just doesn’t make sense to get photos done.
You may be busy preparing for baby’s arrival. You’re focused on getting all of your to-do’s done and preparing the nursery.
Perhaps, you don’t really see the importance. You are so focused on baby, why get photos of you?
First, let me say I understand. I do. I almost didn’t get maternity photos with my second, and I didn’t get newborn photos (one of my biggest regrets as a DC Newborn Photographer). The thought of photos was too much of a hassle. And now, I don’t have images of our entire family in those early weeks…
So here is why you should have a maternity session…
1. These images will matter to your children.
Your children will adore seeing photos of you pregnant, and these images will hold further importance when they are older. What a treasure it is to see photos of your parents when they were young – especially when they were awaiting your arrival! I promise you your children will value your maternity photos.
2. Photos last forever.
I know this one may seem obvious, but I ask you to take a moment to think about this. Most everything you are doing to prepare for baby will not last forever. You will only use the stroller for a few years, the bassinet for a few months, and the baby clothes for even less (I know, it’s so sad!). I remember spending so much time researching the “best” baby items, and although that is a good thing, I challenge you to think long-term. What will matter 10 years from now? 20 years from now? 40 years from now? Definitely not that nice stroller 😉 Going back to point #1, your children will cherish these images forever. And guess what – maybe their children will, too!
3. As a Northern VA & DC Maternity Photographer, I provide a client wardrobe and experience for you.
I know how hard it is to find pieces that you feel great in while pregnant. Again, I’ve been there. That’s why I decided to take this burden from expecting mothers by providing a luxurious, stress-free experience. I have a client wardrobe full of timeless, elegant, and flattering pieces to make you look and feel your best. You don’t need to purchase outfits upon outfits, hoping that something works. I’ve got you covered.
Furthermore, I work with hair and make-up artists who will come to your home so you don’t need to lift a finger. They will make you feel your best, which will, in turn, make you look and feel confident for your photos.
4. You may miss this time (really).
I know you may think I’m crazy for saying this, but you may miss being pregnant. I had a tough second pregnancy, but I found myself romanticizing it long after it was over (I think our brains tend to do this…). The feeling of keeping my baby safe in my belly is truly so special, and I missed this. I missed the excitement of preparing during those tough newborn days. Most of all, I missed feeling those baby kicks. Maternity photos brought back a warm nostalgia.
I hope these reasons resonated with you. In the end, you won’t regret having a maternity session – I promise.
