The 3 Hospital Bag Essentials for Mom…

This post focuses on the 3 things a mom needs for their hospital bag. The hospital will provide everything else, and there are so many posts about all of the extra things you can bring for nursing, recovery, the baby, etc. This post is about YOU and those first few days (or weeks) of postpartum life. As many new mamas soon find out, once the baby is born, all the attention is then redirected from mama to baby (and can you really blame them?). But so many new mothers feel forgotten and lost, which is not hard to do when you haven’t showered in a few days and don’t know what day it is.

I remember being in the throes of postpartum “bliss,” just trying to feel like a human again. And so maybe this post should be titled “The 3 Things You Really Need to Feel Human Again…” Regardless, here are the things that helped me hold on to an ounce of myself in the most delicate few days of postpartum life.

1. Slippers for mom in the hospital bag

Hospital floors have all sorts of fun things on them. You can totally wear the hospital socks they give you. They do the job and have that anti-slip stuff on the bottoms. I ended up getting a pair of these comfy slippers because they looked comfortable (and are) AND I just threw them in the wash when I got home. Once I was home and in bathrobe and slipper life for weeks, I ended up getting these cute Amazon slippers, which are also pretty comfy! They remind me of Birdies but are ⅙ of the cost…but Zach, if you’re reading, I wouldn’t complain if a pair of Birdies showed up at the front door…

2. Robe for mom

Let’s be real. I lived in my bathrobe for months. Like even when I went back to work, I would change into my bathrobe immediately upon coming home. This especially applies if you’re breastfeeding because duh. I’m pretty sure my next door neighbor has seen me in my bathrobe more than normal clothes. And that’s why you have to have a comfortable and cute one! This is especially the case if you want to get beautiful family photos in the hospital with your new little one. Pink Blush offers a wide variety of robes in various patterns and designs. If you want to glam it up a little, I lovvve this robe from Parachute.

3. Sentimental book (a must for the hospital bag for mom)

The last thing I have on my list is a sentimental item. We ended up bringing this book, “On The Night You Were Born” and had the doctors and nurses who delivered Perry sign it. My first ever clients gifted us this book and gave us the idea, and we are SO glad we did it (I have the most AMAZING clients!). It is such a beautiful book, and it is even more meaningful when we see the notes of the people who helped bring Perry into this world. We got the small board book, so I recommend using a sharpie to sign instead of a pen.

3 Hospital Bag Essentials for Mom

I know these three items are not life and death essentials, but these three things made all the difference in my experience. Two items to feel like yourself and be comfortable in and one memorable item. A mom cannot control everything that happens during labor, but we can control what we pack in a hospital bag.
