There is something incredibly meaningful about being invited back into a family’s story.

This sweet session just outside of Olney, Maryland in Brookeville was extra special because it was the second time I’ve had the honor of photographing this family. A few years ago, I photographed their Olney newborn photos, documenting their first son as a brand new baby. This time, I walked through the door to find that same baby now a proud (and very energetic) big brother.

Watching families grow like this is one of my favorite parts of what I do.

Their Brookeville home was absolutely beautiful. Thoughtfully designed, filled with soft light, and layered with neutral textures that photographed like a dream. I always love incorporating the design of your home into your session because it makes your images feel deeply personal. The spaces where you rock your baby, gather as a family, and spend your everyday life become part of the story. These Brookeville MD newborn photos feel so connected to this season because they were created exactly where this family is living it.

And then there was big brother.

He was truly living his best life during our time together. Snacks in hand, happily munching on puffs, making silly faces, running in and out of frames, and soaking up the novelty of having me there. Newborn sessions with toddlers always add an extra layer of unpredictability. There is movement. There are snack breaks. There are moments where we pivot quickly. But here is the thing: you would never know when you see the final images.

While baby brother slept peacefully in his parents’ arms, we embraced the in-between moments with big brother. The giggles. The quick cuddles before he darted away. The proud little glances at “his” baby. I genuinely love winning toddlers over. I never expect them to sit perfectly still or perform. Instead, I meet them where they are. I play. I joke. I let them feel safe and seen. And in the middle of what can feel like chaos to parents, the sweetest, most honest moments unfold.

That is the beauty of in-home Brookeville MD newborn photos. They are not about perfection. They are about connection.

This session felt soft and calm, even with a toddler on the move. It felt layered with history, knowing I once photographed these same parents cradling their first tiny newborn in these very rooms. And now, here they were again, a little more experienced, a little more relaxed, holding their second baby as their first danced around them.

Being trusted to document both beginnings is something I do not take lightly. These early days pass so quickly. It is an honor to freeze them in a way that feels timeless, personal, and completely yours.
