Downtown DC family photos are extra special at sunrise, and this sweet session at Constitution Gardens couldn’t have been a better way to start the morning. The park was quiet, the light was golden, and this family’s two little girls showed up ready to explore from the moment they arrived.
Constitution Gardens is one of my go to spots for Downtown DC family photos because it has so much for kids to enjoy. The ducks were a huge hit with the girls. They tiptoed toward the water, giggled when the ducks swam closer, and kept pointing out which one was their favorite. All that curiosity made it easy to capture genuine smiles and those perfectly candid moments parents love.
And of course, the airplanes. If you’ve ever spent time at Constitution Gardens, you know you can usually spot a few flying overhead. Every time one passed by, the girls stopped what they were doing to look up and watch it go. Their parents joined in, and it turned into a sweet little ritual throughout the session. It’s simple things like that that make Downtown DC family photos feel relaxed and fun instead of posed and stiff.
We wandered around the park together, letting the girls lead the way. Sometimes they wanted to check out the trees, sometimes they wanted to run ahead on the path, and sometimes they were perfectly content to snuggle with mom and dad. With the warm sunrise glow bouncing off the water and filtering through the trees, every spot looked beautiful. Sunrise can be an early wake up call, but mornings like this make it so worth it.
One of my favorite parts of working with this family came after the session. Instead of letting their photos live only on a phone or in the cloud, they chose to print them in a few really meaningful ways. They picked out framed and matted fine art prints for their walls along with a gorgeous matted print box to keep the rest of their favorites safe. Now their photos are part of their daily life, not just something they scroll past every once in a while.
