Collage Of Three Maternity Photos At The Estate At River Run.

Some sessions begin with a location, but this one truly began with a piece of art that has stayed with me for years. When I started envisioning these maternity photos at the Estate at River Run, I kept returning to the classic painting Ophelia and the softness, florals, and sense of floating that make it so timeless. There is something deeply romantic about the way she rests in the water, surrounded by nature, suspended in stillness. I loved that feeling, but I did not want to recreate it literally. Instead of using water, I wanted to interpret it through fabric and movement.

This maternity session was styled and dreamed up by me as part of a styled session event hosted by my friend Adrianne of Beatific Visions Photography. Styled events like this are such a creative gift because they allow space to experiment and refine a vision without limitation. From the very beginning, I knew fabric would be the focal point. I envisioned layers of soft, airy textiles gathered and arranged to mimic gentle waves, wrapping our mother-to-be in movement rather than submerging her in water.

The Estate at River Run could not have been more perfect for this concept. Its light blue walls subtly echoed the tones of water and sky, while the classic architectural details added a painterly, refined quality that elevated the entire scene. There is a timeless elegance to the estate that naturally lends itself to fine art portraiture, which made maternity photos at the Estate at River Run feel both intentional and effortless. The space itself became part of the storytelling.

We styled florals carefully so they felt organic and unforced, as though they had naturally settled around her. The fabrics were lifted, shaped, and allowed to fall in soft, flowing lines that created depth and dimension in every frame. I wanted the final images to feel atmospheric and romantic, inspired by art but not confined to it.

For me, maternity is such a fluid and transformative season of life, and using fabric to imitate water felt symbolic in a beautiful way. Pregnancy carries both vulnerability and strength, and surrounding her with movement instead of stillness felt like an honest representation of that balance. There is something powerful about portraying motherhood in a way that feels elevated yet deeply feminine.

Creating these maternity photos at the Estate at River Run reminded me why I value styled concepts so much in my own artistic growth. They allow me to stretch beyond what is expected and refine the visual language that shapes my brand. When a meaningful concept meets a location as stunning as this one, the result feels less like a photoshoot and more like stepping into a living piece of art.
