It can be overwhelming to figure out what to pack for a babymoon. After flying to four countries, roadtripping through Ireland, driving down the West coast, taking a train from Scotland to England, almost dying in Iceland, and driving/flying to numerous other states all while pregnant, I have had the opportunity to figure out what works (and what doesn’t!) in terms of traveling while pregnant.
The earliest in pregnancy I have traveled was when I was 8 weeks pregnant to Iceland, and the latest was when I was 36 weeks to Savannah, GA for my best friend’s wedding.
Below are items I brought with me and tips that helped get me through:
Ginger candies
These are a MUST if you have nausea from morning sickness. I experienced a little nausea when we were in Iceland, so having the candies on me to pop in helped when I was feeling a bout come on.
Compression tights
If you are flying, especially long distance, your doctor will likely recommend you get compression tights to prevent blood clots. I wore a pair like these underneath my jeans when flying to Europe.
Medical records
Chances are, you will be absolutely fine, but it is always a good idea to carry a copy of your medical records should you need to be admitted to a hospital during your trip.
Comfortable shoes – must-have item to pack for a babymoon
We usually do SO much walking when we travel, so having comfortable shoes to walk in all day (especially if your feet get swollen!) are a MUST. I have most enjoyed wearing my Tieks or Rothy’s when exploring but will occasionally swap them out for Sperry’s or good ol’ fashioned flip-flops! It’s a good idea to pack a few pairs to give your feet different options.
Grace
Lastly, if there is one thing motherhood teaches us, it’s to be flexible. This begins in pregnancy with the fatigue, nausea, sore joints, etc. Give yourself grace and rest when you need to. There is no need to jam pack everything in possibly the last trip you take with your spouse before children. Take time to soak in where you are, rest, and enjoy this special time together.
