I can’t believe we are approaching the last few days of 2022. As I get older, each year passes by faster and faster. 2022 was an incredible year, not only for my business but also for my personal life.
Cecilia “CeCe” was born in February and truly completed our family in the best way. I was so scared to add a third child to our family for a few reasons. I had severe postpartum anxiety with Rosie, so I was worried about the anxiety reoccurring. I wanted a natural labor and birth like I had with Rosie and was also fearful that my gestational hypertension would return and force me into an induction. My fears did not transpire – in fact, I had the most beautiful labor with CeCe and the best postpartum period of all three children.
During my maternity leave with CeCe, I continued to work on my business with the hope of transitioning into a full-time motherhood photographer. Newborn CeCe would hop along in the car with me to scout locations, drop off dresses & artwork during those first few months! It was actually the perfect amount of “work.” During maternity leave I like to be moderately occupied, and it was so motivating and inspiring to work towards something that I knew would greatly benefit my family.
In June I officially left my teaching job and fulfilled my dream of becoming a full-time motherhood photographer. It brings me great joy to take care of mothers by providing a full-service experience, from hair and make-up and wardrobe to delivering heirloom pieces of art to pass down for generations.
In August, I helped host my first ever workshop with The Kindred Path, an online journal for family photographers. What an amazing experience it was to meet and connect with other family photographers doing what we love!
In September, my family traveled to California. This was a short but oh-so-sweet trip. I was able to attend a workshop with one of the photographers I admire the most, Elizabeth Messina. Zach, the kids, and I went to Disneyland, and it was every bit as magical as we expected.
The fall brought my busiest fall season yet. It felt like I was constantly photographing families and designing artwork for months.
In December I launched my educational resource page for motherhood photographers. I am thrilled to begin offering mentoring to other photographers who want to serve mothers in this season.
Now that the slow season is among us, I am reflecting back on the abundance 2022 gifted my family and me. I feel so grateful to be able to call this passion my job.
I am SO excited for 2023. There are some BIG things in store, and I cannot wait to get started. But for now, I am going to relish in the joy of 2022.
Until next year friends,
Marie
