Clarksville maternity photos don’t get much more dreamy than this. When this mama reached out to me about photographing her maternity session, I knew right away that the Brighton Dam Azalea Garden was the place. It did not disappoint.
Brighton Dam is one of those locations that just feels like it was made for maternity photography. Located in Brookeville, MD, just outside of Clarksville, this garden explodes with color every spring: deep red, bubblegum pink, soft purple, the cleanest white. It’s lush, it’s romantic, it’s blooms literally everywhere you look. There is nowhere to turn where you won’t find something beautiful in the background.
And this session? It was so incredibly fun, because we had the most precious little toddler big sister along for the ride. She brought so much energy and joy to every single frame. I love when little ones join maternity sessions. There’s something so special about capturing that “last chapter” before everything changes and your family grows.

Why I Love Brighton Dam for Maternity Photography
Let me just say: the color here is unreal. Most outdoor locations have green grass and maybe a few flowers if you’re lucky. Brighton Dam delivers an explosion of color that wraps around you on every side. The azaleas create this incredibly romantic, almost otherworldly backdrop that I just can’t get enough of.
It’s also a wonderfully flexible location. The garden has plenty of shade, which means we have a lot more flexibility with timing than many outdoor spots. You don’t have to be there at the crack of dawn to get beautiful light, which I know my mamas appreciate! Both morning and evening sessions work beautifully here.

When to Go: Timing Your Brighton Dam Session
This is important, so listen up! The azaleas at Brighton Dam typically bloom around mid to late April, and they stay in bloom for about one to two weeks. That’s it. This is a very short window, and it books up fast.
Here’s what you need to know for planning:
Best time of day: Morning or evening both work really well here. Because of the shade throughout the garden, you have more flexibility and can even do a later morning start without losing that gorgeous, soft light. This is great news for mamas who need a little extra time in the morning (no judgment, you’re growing a human!).
Parking: Super easy. There’s a parking area right across from the garden. No stress, no hunting for a spot.
Permits: None required! This is a public garden and one of the few stunning locations in the area where you can just show up and shoot without jumping through hoops.
My honest advice: if you’re thinking about Clarksville maternity photos at Brighton Dam, reach out early. Sessions during azalea season fill up well before the blooms arrive, and once that window closes, it’s gone for the year. The Full-Service Maternity Experience
I want to talk about this for a second, because I know it can feel overwhelming to plan a maternity session on top of everything else you have going on.
That’s exactly why I take care of everything for you.
When you book a maternity session with me, here’s what’s included:
Professional hair and makeup. You show up, you get pampered, and you look and feel incredible. Done.
Wardrobe for you and your little ones. I have a curated client closet with gorgeous options for mamas and children, so you don’t have to stress about what to wear. (That floral dress? It’s from my closet!)
A personalized planning call. Before your session, we’ll connect to talk through every detail: location, timing, wardrobe, what to expect. You’ll feel completely prepared and taken care of.
Fine art albums and wall art. Your images don’t just live on a USB drive in a drawer somewhere. I help you create something beautiful: a fine art album, artwork for your walls, pieces that will be in your family for generations.
Basically, I take care of every step of the process for you, from start to finish. My goal is for you to walk away from your maternity experience feeling like it was the most enjoyable, stress-free thing you did during your whole pregnancy, and with photos you’ll treasure forever.
