DC Magnolias Maternity Session

The DC magnolias are simply stunning! The Tidal Basin cherry blossoms get a lot of hype and attention, but in my opinion, the magnolias are even more romantic (and much less crowded to enjoy!). The magnolias bloom about 1-2 weeks before the Tidal Basin cherry blossoms in early to mid-March, so although it’s often a little chilly, magnolias signal the start of spring.

There are a few great spots to enjoy the magnolias in DC that are perfect for a photo session. The Enid Haupt Garden at the Smithsonian is probably one of the most popular spots since you can see the Smithsonian Castle, as well as the Washington Monument.

For this maternity session, we photographed at Rawlins Park and the DAR Constitution Hall. Rawins Park and the DAR are within a couple blocks of each other, so they are perfect to pair for a session. Both locations have a lot of white or open space, creating a very bright and airy look. This couple brought their furry pup, and we enjoyed the perfect March morning together!
