How Rosie Got Her Name

Rosalie, “Rosie,” has added such a joy to our lives. She was born two months before COVID hit, so she was a light during many dark days (along with her silly brother!).

Rosie was always our girl name, so when we found out she was a girl, we knew she would be Rosie. We weren’t sure what her full name would be, but I had fallen in love with the name Rosalie. We live near Riversdale Manor, a historic house once lived in by some of Maryland’s earliest European settlers. One of its notable residents was Rosalie Calvert, a Flemish lady. I fell in love with this French version of Rose, so that kind of stuck.

Fast forward to when I was 13 weeks pregnant. We traveled to Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, California so I could attend a photography workshop and to explore the West Coast. On our second full day in Portland, we visited the International Rose Test Garden. It was there we received the phone call that our little baby was going to be a girl!

It was so serendipitous that we happened to be in a luscious rose garden when we got the news. And such a special way to begin planning for our darling Rosalie.
