As a Washington, DC Family Photographer, it is my pleasure to help you with determining what to wear for photos. One of the biggest worries mothers come to me with is what to wear and how to coordinate their family.
As part of the experience for your session, you will receive a planning guide in the mail. The planning guide covers how to best prepare for your session, what to wear, how to coordinate your family, and what happens before, during, and after your session.
Previously, I have written posts on what to wear for your maternity session, what to wear for your newborn session, and what your children should wear. I also offer a client wardrobe full of classic, flattering pieces for your DC family photo session. I understand how difficult and frustrating it can be to find ensembles for the entire family each year for your family photos. Once I had my second child, it was easy for me to see why many parents stress about coordinating their crews.
I want to take away your stress. You shouldn’t have to put off having family photos. It really should be a simple, stress-free process. Over the past few years, I have been collecting quality pieces, some new, some vintage, that can achieve a timeless, elegant feel to your family photos.
When you a book a session with me, you will have the opportunity to select dresses from the client wardrobe. From there, we will build your family’s wardrobe around you. Should you rather wear another outfit, I offer my recommendations on how to achieve the style of my photos.
It really should be that easy!
I pride myself on making family photography elegant, romantic, and whimsical. You’ll find I recommend long, flowy gowns for moms – not only for their beauty, but also for their functionality. I will often have moms crouch or lay down with their little ones.
Incorporating a complimentary color palette is also important. Avoid bright colors such as neons, red, bright green, yellow, and bright blue – these can all add color casts to skin tones. Furthermore, we want all the focus to be on you and your family.
I love naturals and soft tones, such as sage, rose, gray, ivory, and other organic colors. These photograph so beautifully and will provide that ethereal imagery to your photos.
