When to Have Your Maternity Session

A question I get asked all the time is when to have your maternity session. The truth is, there is never a wrong time, but there is an ideal window that I recommend.

Between 27-34 weeks is the best time to have your maternity session. Let’s talk about why!

You have a bump! Definitely a must for when to have your maternity session.

First, you have a bump to show – so we have a bump to photograph! Any size baby belly is beautiful, yet usually the bump is big enough to see, yet still small enough to have fabric and texture to play with.

You feel your best.

At 27-34 weeks, you will likely be feeling your best during the pregnancy. You are at the beginning of the third trimester, so hopefully you are no longer nauseous. Third trimester woes like swelling, back pain, and pelvic pain usually hold off for a few more weeks.

We have some wiggle room.

In the event we need to reschedule due to weather or illness, we will likely have wiggle room before baby arrives. This way, you won’t need to worry if we will still be able to squeeze your session in.

You will receive your images before baby arrives.

I photograph with film, so the turnaround time for images is usually 4-5 weeks. When we schedule your session between 27-34 weeks, you will likely be able to receive your images before baby is born – and share them with family and friends!
