DC Motherhood Photographer | An Essay on Motherhood

As a DC Motherhood Photographer, there are so many rewarding aspects to the job. I adore documenting the connection between parents and their little ones, and it is not lost on me how fleeting this time is. We can often get caught up in the day-to-day mundane elements of parenthood. This can feel draining, exhausting, and depleting. The paradox is that we admire this time with rose colored lenses – it provides us a richness in love and beautiful, deep connection.

I choose to photograph motherhood with an elegant timeless. A huge part of my photography philosophy is to document motherhood in a natural but exquisite approach. I believe this represents the paradox of the role. Everyday motherhood is anything but glamorous. I think we can all agree on that! There are probably many more things we would rather do than laundry, washing the dishes, and changing diapers. But it is the deep-seated, profound emotions connected to the role that are beautiful in all of their imperfections. We wish for the day to pass us by, but once it’s gone we miss the grasp of our children’s hands or the sound of their giggles. Nostalgia born from this pulling of emotions just gets to me.

This complexity is beautiful. And that is what I want you to remember. It is okay to feel tired, bored, etc. during the daily routine, and it is okay to miss all of those things later. Documenting this dichotomy is an honor, and it would be my greatest privilege to do that for you.
