DC Wisteria Maternity Photos

These DC wisteria maternity photos are so dreamy! We kicked things off with DC wisteria maternity photos near the National Gallery of Art, and wow… the wisteria really showed up for us.

The blooms were hanging down in the prettiest shades of purple, almost like a curtain all around her. It created this super soft, romantic feel without us having to do much at all. Add in a flowy dress and that warm evening light, and it just felt easy and dreamy in the best way.

Honestly, wisteria is one of those things that always feels a little extra special. It doesn’t last long, but when it’s here, it’s so good.

Then we switched things up and headed to Hains Point for the Kwanzan cherry blossoms… and this is where the soft pink tones came in.

I loved pairing these with the wisteria because they gave us two totally different looks in one session. The purples felt a little moodier and romantic, and the pinks felt light and glowy. Since they’re expecting a baby girl, it was such a sweet, subtle way to tie everything together.

Also, Hains Point is just one of those spots that tends to feel a little more calm than the Tidal Basin, which is always a win.

When to Expect Wisteria + Kwanzan Cherry Blossoms in DC

If you’re hoping for your own DC wisteria maternity photos, timing really matters here.

• Wisteria and Kwanzan cherry blossoms usually bloom about 7–10 days after peak bloom at the Tidal Basin
• They tend to last around a week, give or take depending on the weather

So if you miss peak cherry blossoms, this is actually the perfect next window to aim for. A little less crowded, just as pretty.

Why These Locations Work So Well

These are two of my favorite spring spots for a reason:

• No permit required
• Parking is pretty easy
• The light is consistently beautiful
• The blooms do most of the work for us

It’s all very low-stress, which is exactly how I want my maternity sessions to feel.

When to Schedule Your Maternity Photos

For timing your session, I always recommend between 27–34 weeks.

That window tends to be the sweet spot because:

• Your bump is nice and visible
• You’re usually still feeling pretty good
• We have some wiggle room in case we need to reschedule for weather or anything unexpected

And in DC, that flexibility matters.
